Creation Time 2012

The CTBI Creation Time resources for 2012 now on web.  This year’s theme is Sustainable energy in creation - Time for prayer and action.

Resources for this year are available for free download, including sermon notes, prayers of intercession, group study and liturgical material. A range of other liturgical material can be found in Additional Resources 2010 . An updated version of this will be available in August 2012.

There are also articles for inclusion in church magazines.

The Church of Scotland will be issuing additional worship material for Creation Time on its Starters for Sunday web page in late July.

Creation Time 2011

Creation time is organised by the Council of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI). Creation Time 2011 runs from 1st September to 4th October and can be integrated into harvest festival activities to promote sustainable living.

This year's theme is "Our Daily Bread - Food in God's Creation":

'What's the food like?', 'Who is providing the food?', 'Is there enough food to go round?' Our everyday talk constantly makes reference to food, which is no surprise, as food and drink are essentials for life and survival.
When we pray "Give us our daily bread" we are both acknowledging our dependence on God's generosity and our realisation that the answer to that prayer needs to include agriculture, commerce, sharing, trade-justice, animal welfare, diet and a host of other considerations.

CreationTime 2010

Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI)  have just put on line an excellent set of resources for worship in ‘Creationtime’ 2010 (1 September – 4 October).  the resources are divided in the following sections:

• Sermon notes based on the Lectionary readings for the 5 Sundays
• A keynote sermon on the theme, and other sermons
• Prayers of intercession
• Resources for children's groups and schools
• Group study ideas
• Biodiversity FAQs - for churches
• A range of other liturgical material

 It would be really good if  all eco-congregations to use these materials. They are, of course  of interest  to all congregations. Please email us or write us a comment if you have used them.

Climate Change Day of Prayer

Churches of different denominations from all around the UK and Ireland are making arrangements to hold a day of prayer on climate change ahead of the crucial Copenhagen summit. While most are on October 4th, churches can selectany date before mid December for these prayers.

"I believe the Climate Change Day of Prayer - encouraging quiet reflection and passionate prayer - is probably the most important initiative Christians can be involved in during the lead up to the critical negoatiotions in Copenhagen"
says Dave Bookless, A Rocha UK Director.

All resources are now freely available for these times of prayer on the CTBI website. There is a press release from CTBI, tips on running the event, poster and sample newsletter article to use for local publicity, a welcome sheet for participants, a selection of reflections to either read out or play as audio tracks, and response forms and petition for people to sign as they leave.

Revd John Marsh, General Assembly Moderator of the United Reformed Church
adds his endorsement to that of other denominational leaders, saying:

"In these few weeks leading up to the Climate Conference in Copenhagen on 11th December, it is essential for Churches to be given, and to give, clear spiritual leadership. The well-being of creation is a spiritual issue for all humanity. Now is the time for Christians and Churches to pray their way into the Copenhagen Conference and into the hearts and souls of all those world leaders who will be gathered there. So, let us pray - on Sunday 4th October, and without ceasing."

The audio tracks also provide a useful resource for personal meditation and prayer.
