Professor Michael Northcott on a Theology for Climate Change

Professor Michael Northcott of Edinburgh University recently addressed a meeting of evangelical Christians at Ridley College, Melbourne, Australia.
...it seems to me what we have to do is face the fact that at the heart of our refusal to engage with the issue of climate change is our consumption economy, and that our refusal to listen to the signs of change in the atmosphere and in the oceans and in the weather and in the earth's system more generally is a reflection of a spiritual problem of what the prophets would call idolatry and not just of materialism.
